Alitalia & Italian Transportation Strikes On December 15, 2017

There is strike activity brewing in Italy (yet again) and next Friday could be very challenging times trying to fly in/out from the country due to number of strikes that may entirely ground Alitalia for the day.

Alitalia Running Out Of Cash

Air traffic controllers are planning to strike for four hours, airport personnel providing services to airlines are striking for several hours, some transportation employees are striking for eight hours and finally some Alitalia employees are planning tor strike for the entire day.

Conclusion

Just wanted to give heads up for the readers who might be traveling to/from/though Italy on 15th that it might be a rough travel day due to labor strike activity affecting all methods of transportation and especially Alitalia.

There is no information currently on Alitalia’s website about this upcoming strike.

Remember that the airline is required by law (EC 261/2004) to provide duty to care such as accommodation and food (lunch/dinner/breakfast) in case of long delays and rebook affected passengers to their final destinations at their (passengers) earliest convenience. I would suggest trying to bypass Italy altogether if possible.

We will have an update up when we have more information. This strike may ground entire Alitalia’s flight operations for the day. This would affect some flights from the day before and the day after too.

I have short-haul flight on Alitalia followed with a long-haul one coming up on Wednesday this week and another set on December 18 and 19. I certainly hope that these four flights are not affected by the strike activity.
